The Prague British International School is seeking to appoint a suitable candidate for the position of Librarian for our school.

Purpose of the role

The School Librarian plays a key role in developing a vibrant reading culture across the school, ensuring that the library is at the heart of school life and that every student is encouraged to develop a lifelong love of reading.
Working closely with class and subject teachers, the School Librarian will actively promote reading for pleasure, support students in discovering books that interest and challenge them, and help teachers create meaningful opportunities for reading within and beyond the curriculum.
The Librarian will ensure that the library is a welcoming, inclusive and inspiring environment in which students feel confident exploring books, discussing their reading and developing their identity as readers.

The library should be at the heart of our school's culture of learning and reading.
The School Librarian has a particular responsibility for ensuring that every student has the opportunity to discover themselves as a reader. This means moving beyond the management and organisation of books to actively creating connections between students, teachers, families and literature.
Working in close partnership with class and subject teachers, the Librarian will help students discover books that interest, challenge and inspire them; support teachers in developing reading within and beyond the curriculum; and create experiences that make reading visible, social and valued throughout the school.
The Librarian will know our students as readers: understanding what they enjoy, noticing those who may not yet see themselves as readers and actively helping every student find books and reading experiences that enable them to develop confidence, curiosity and a genuine love of reading.

We require

• Fluency in English, both spoken and written (essential).
• A genuine passion for books, reading and working with children and young people.
• Experience of working with children and/or in an educational environment.
• Excellent organisational, interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
• The ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other members of the school community.
• Good presentation, communication and research skills.
• Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel), and the ability to learn and use library databases and other programmes accurately.
• Relevant qualification and/or demonstrable experience in librarianship, education or a related field
