CANDIDATE’S PROFILE

The Marine Team Leader and Marine Cross-Country Practice Leader is responsible for steering the marine insurance business in the Czech Republic, driving commercial performance and supporting the local team while reporting to the CZ Head of Commercial. At the same time, serves as a regional practice leader, providing technical expertise, alignment and best-practice guidance to Colonnade branches across Central Europe, acting as the Chief Marine Underwriter, contributing to their development and strengthening the overall marine portfolio, driving the growth of Colonnade’s Marine Business.

DAY TO DAY TASKS – Marine Team Leader – Czech market

• Leading, motivating, and coaching the marine underwriting team– supporting individual underwriters and the team as a whole, setting business and development objectives, driving the execution and providing regular feedback.
• Active management of the CZ Marine portfolio.
• Active involvement in underwriting and risk assessment for key marine clients – in addition to team leadership, contributing directly to evaluating marine risks, preparing pricing, and presenting major proposals, particularly for strategic accounts.
• Responsibility for marine insurance products – managing underwriting methodologies, driving product development, and participating in the testing and refinement of new marine solutions.
• Supporting the team in preparing proposals for brokers – reviewing marine risks, developing quotations, and offering technical expertise during the proposal process.
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with commercial partners – representing the marine team with key brokers and clients, ensuring effective communication and cooperation.
• Collaborating across divisions – actively promoting cross-functional cooperation within the Commercial division and across the wider organization to ensure integrated marine business development.

DAY TO DAY TASKS – Marine Cross Country Practice Leader (CZ, SK, HU, PL, BG, RO)

• Acting as the Chief Marine Underwriter at Colonnade, actively overseeing the marine business in the Colonnade countries, setting strategies (business growth and portfolio management), overseeing the execution, driving the growth of the marine business in line with Colonnade Commercial Business strategy.
• Providing regional guidance on marine underwriting – offering expertise and direction to help ensure a consistent and high-quality approach across countries.
• Supporting country teams with key questions or complex cases when needed – acting as a trusted advisor.
• Facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration – encouraging exchange of best practices, coordinating periodic calls, and helping teams learn from each other.
• Contributing to the alignment of underwriting standards and tools (raters, templates, other technologies supporting the work of the local teams) – working with local teams to gradually harmonize methodologies and strengthen technical capabilities across the region.
• Connecting markets and promoting cross-country initiatives – identifying opportunities for cooperation and supporting regional projects that enhance the marine portfolio.
• Maintaining regular communication with country leaders and key stakeholders – ensuring transparency, alignment, and smooth collaboration across all involved markets.

REQUIREMENTS

• University degree in Economics, Business, Risk Management, Maritime Studies or a related field.
• Professional insurance qualifications (e.g., CII, ACI) are an advantage.
• Strong expertise in marine insurance underwriting, including risk assessment and pricing.
• Several years of experience in the marine insurance market in underwriting or commercial roles.
• Proven leadership and people management skills, including coaching and team development.
• Ability to work effectively across multiple countries and cultures.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with brokers, clients, and internal leaders.
• Strategic and analytical mindset with the ability to identify opportunities and trends.
• Ability to balance local team leadership with regional advisory responsibilities.
• High level of English proficiency for cross-country collaboration.
