Are you a seasoned engineering leader passionate about sustainability, innovation, and operational excellence? Our client, a high-end luxury resort located on one of Zanzibar’s most stunning beaches, is seeking a Chief Engineer to take charge of its facilities and technical operations. This is a unique opportunity to join a property that is internationally recognized for its design, service, and commitment to eco-friendly practices.
 
As Chief Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the resort runs seamlessly behind the scenes, delivering the highest level of guest experience. You will oversee all technical aspects of the property—from preventive maintenance and energy efficiency to long-term investment planning and capital projects. Working closely with other departments, you will ensure that facilities and infrastructure not only meet but exceed standards of safety, reliability, and sustainability.

This is a full-time, on-site leadership position based in Kendwa, Zanzibar (Tanzania), visa for 1-2 years.

Job description:

• lead and manage the engineering team, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence,
• oversee the operation and maintenance of all facilities, equipment, and systems (electrical, water, HVAC, etc.),
• plan and implement preventive maintenance schedules and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations,
• manage CAPEX investments, renovations, and new technical projects in line with strategic objectives,
• collaborate with other departments to support smooth resort operations and elevate guest satisfaction,
• drive sustainable practices and energy efficiency initiatives across the property.

We require:

• bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field,
• strong technical expertise in facility management and engineering systems,
• proven experience managing engineering teams and maintenance programs,
• in-depth knowledge of hotel technologies, technical infrastructure, and safety regulations,
• demonstrated ability to plan and execute CAPEX projects and renovations,
• excellent organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills,
• experience in the hospitality industry or realystate is highly advantageous,
• commitment to sustainability and environmentally responsible practices.
