Úvodní představení
The Faculty of Medicine has been part of Charles University since its founding in 1348. The original single faculty was divided into three faculties in Prague in 1953. The Second Faculty of Medicine is located on the premises of the Motol University Hospital, where most of the clinical teaching takes place in both the pediatric and adult sections, as well as on the new Plzeňská campus, where the theoretical and preclinical departments are located. We provide general medical education and our graduates find employment in all fields. Compared to other faculties, students can learn in detail about pediatric specializations that are among the best in Europe and the world.
Pracovní nabídka
We are looking for a capable and motivated postdoctoral candidate interested in research on metabolism, with an emphasis on the study of leukaemia and the tumour microenvironment.
The CLIP laboratories (Childhood Leukaemia Investigation Prague) are an integral part of the Department of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology, Second Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague. It is the largest paediatric oncology centre in the Czech Republic, with approximately 250 newly diagnosed patients annually. CLIP laboratories are responsible for diagnostics, monitoring disease progression, and treatment efficacy in haematological malignancies. In addition to diagnostics, CLIP also conducts internationally recognized research in the field of haematological diseases. One of CLIP’s specific interests is to elucidate the role of tumour metabolism in disease progression and treatment. Previous work led by Dr. Starková has highlighted the importance of new findings in this area (Hermanová, Leukaemia 2016; Hložková, BMC Cancer 2020; Hložková, Sci Rep 2022; Alquezar-Artieda, Blood Adv. 2023; Lukeš, Hemasphere 2023; Hložková, Cancer Lett. 2024). The long-term goal of the work is to use new insights in the interpretation of clinical data and potentially contribute to therapeutic interventions for patients with poor prognosis.
The current project focuses on identifying metabolic processes of resistant cells responsible for the adverse effects of current treatment. In this study, we use PDX models, single-cell RNA sequencing, mass cytometry, metabolic and proteomic tools, and ex vivo drug testing.
