Senior Research Analyst/Research Manager, European Banking

The role

To support IDC Financial Insights' operational activities in Europe we have a vacancy for a Senior Research Analyst/ Research Manager to provide expert coverage of the European Banking sector with a strong focus on Digital Transformation in Retail Banking.

The role of the Research Manager is truly multi-faceted. It involves producing regular insightful content for a dedicated subscription service on European Banking Digital Transformation Strategies (following a defined agenda and publication schedule).

The successful candidate will also play an active role in custom research and consultancy engagements, which are performed on behalf of a variety of clients – both technology vendor and financial institutions.

Additional responsibilities include – but are not limited to – responding to client enquiries; collaborating with colleagues in other business units on shared research publications; coordinating primary research programmes; supporting Sales & Marketing campaigns in pursuit of new business opportunities; and public speaking engagements & media interviews to help raise the profile of IDC Financial Insights through the demonstration of genuine thought-leadership.

The candidate

The position calls for a highly motivated individual who possesses outstanding writing, presentation and client interaction skills. These capabilities will ideally have been developed over the past 5 to 7 years in a recognised analyst role concentrating on the applied use of technology in the financial services industry. However, applicants with backgrounds in IT vendors, consultancies or banking institutions will also be considered.

The successful candidate will be someone who can demonstrate a deep-seated understanding of the current and future business challenges impacting the retail banking and payments sectors, and assess how technology can help to directly address these issues.

This knowledge will have been gained through the ongoing analysis of industry developments, and supplemented by a carefully cultivated network of contacts. Familiarity with core banking transformation, payments transformation, open banking and ecosystem partnerships, omni-channel banking (with particular focus on digital interaction), data analytics and automation, data monetization, cloud and digital transformation are essential pre-requisites.

A good understanding of the impact of banking regulations (such as PSD2, GDPR, MiFID II, etc) is highly desirable. Experiences with and interest in emerging technologies, such as distributed ledger technologies, cognitive and machine learning, and open banking transformation are a key advantage.
