The biomedical company Medicem Institute developing medical devices, in particular intraocular lenses, is offering a job opportunity in its R&D center in Kamenné Žehrovice, Kladno district. R&D Specialist Chemistry

  • The R&D specialist will actively participate in development of an intraocular lens post-operatively adjustable by a femtosecond laser in the human eye.
  • S/he will be responsible for preparation of prototypes of hydrogel-based ophthalmic implants as well as for understanding of physical and chemical processes occurring during processing of these hydrogels.
  • S/he will be involved in the design, synthesis, surface modification and characterization of synthetic hydrogel materials for application in intraocular lenses and in development of characterization methods of hydrogels and intraocular lenses.
  • The multidisciplinary work in one team with more senior colleagues will include:
  • Planning of own experiments
  • Preparation and characterization of samples
  • Development of characterization methods
  • Analyzing and interpreting experimental data, intelligibly communicating results to all members of our multidisciplinary team
  • Conducting literature reviews on topics relevant for the team’s work
  • Documenting results, both in written and electronic form
  • Collaborating with external partners and coordinating this collaboration
  • Writing experimental protocols, reports, background information for patents and research publications

Required Technical Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • University degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or in related fields, focus on polymers is a plus but not required; we give a chance to fresh graduates
  • Solid foundation of basic chemistry and physics principles
  • Exceptional laboratory skills including analytical chemistry skills
  • Working knowledge of polymer physics including characterization methods (e.g., mechanometry, rheometry, spectroscopy, chromatography, solution interactions, polymer network architecture, polymerization kinetics …..) is a plus; desire to build expertise in these areas is a must
  • Readiness to learn new skills and work in a multidisciplinary environment
  • English level B2 at minimum or simultaneous Czech/Slovak level C1 and English level B1 at minimum
  • Excellent PC skills: MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point
