Technical Writer_Global IT Communications

The Sr. Technical Writer for IT Communications plays a critical role in supporting the Global IT organization in its internal messaging, branding and cultural evolution by creating technical documentation and materials for IT-related projects that are easy to understand.

Qualified candidates will have proven success in adapting within a fast-paced environment where each day brings opportunities to transform complex information into simplified terms and visuals for Edwards employees around the world. The Sr. Technical Writer will collaborate with the IT Communications manager and Project Communicator colleagues on technical writing assignments such as step-by-step procedures and quick start guides, FAQs, training guides and videos, website pages and other technical documentation needed for IT projects. Candidates will be able to conceptualize complex information into easy-to-understand visuals that can be used in employee-facing content. They should have a passion for creating pleasant user experiences.

How you will make a difference:

  • Develop technical documentation for various IT projects including website content, instructional guides, quick start guides and FAQs
  • Identify audiences for content and anticipate the questions, problems, and needs that the content should address
  • Collaborate with colleagues on creative solutions to communicate complex information using infographics, digital artwork and videos to help employees understand new processes
  • Review and edit existing documentation to ensure content is accurate and applicable to current processes and systems.
  • Execute on the communications timelines and plans for internal IT campaigns and projects
  • Support content development for IT leadership presentations – creating visual representations, tables and graphs to help tell project stories
  • Suggest improvements to current processes and style guidelines to keep our documentation up-to-date and easy to use for employees
  • Assist with UAT and UI/UX when needed on IT projects
  • Support updates to the Global IT SharePoint website

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of technical writing experience.
  • Proven ability to take complex IT terminology and simplify it for the average user
  • Ability to analyze documentation requirements and successfully identify tasks to address them
  • Experience working with key stakeholders, SMEs and technical leads to gather details
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills in English
  • An eye for visuals and experience using graphic design to explain complex information
  • Proven expertise in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat Pro
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint
  • Experience using Camtasia or similar software to create instructional videos
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced and constantly changing work environment
  • Ability to work independently on assigned projects
  • Understanding of how to use company brand guidelines in the areas of colour theory, typography, presentation design, layout, and offset/digital printing

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with all platforms in Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Familiarity with Visio and Power Automate
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Understanding of how to support internal communications in a corporate setting
  • Understanding of related aspects of IT communications processes and/or systems
  • Experience working in a regulated industry
  • Experience working on a global team
